Airport DECA, a career and technical education program at Airport High School, was among 246 school-based enterprises achieving Gold Level Certification for the 2020-2021 school year from its national organization.

This is the highest level of certification the chapter can earn.

With that honor, Airport’s chapter will be recognized during DECA’s Virtual International Career Development Conference, scheduled for April 19-23.

A school-based enterprise (SBE) is an entrepreneurial operation in a school setting that provides goods and services to meet the needs of the market.

The SBEs are managed and run hands-on by the students with programs that integrate National Curriculum Standards in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.

DECA advisors have used this method for over 40 years to provide students with realistic and practical learning experiences that reinforce classroom instruction, enhance skill development, and prepare students for college and careers.

Airport’s DECA program is 7 years old.

The Airport DECA members who contributed to this year’s certification were Erica Bergmooser, Ryley McGuckin and Rylee Alston, with the assistance of Airport DECA chapter advisor, Teresa Millican.
