BARJANE is pleased to announce the launch of its first logistics development in the United Kingdom. The 257,000sq ft warehouse building, which is located at Brackmills Point in Northampton, was purpose built for sporting goods retailer Decathlon.
Brackmills Point is the perfect location for Decathlon, which has relocated to the new logistics hub from a smaller (190,000sq ft) building nearby in order to accommodate the increasing logistics requirement associated with its growing UK store network and online sales. In addition to the 257,000sq ft building, there is adjacent land for expansion of up to 100,000sq ft of additional warehouse space.
Commenting on the launch BARJANE’s development director in the UK, Jonathan Buck, said:“We are very excited to be launching our first UK development with our long-term customer Decathlon. We are keen to do further projects in the UK and are currently looking for suitable sites as well as talking to a number of potential occupiers, including French businesses looking to expand, for whom we can unlock the UK property market, and UK/international occupiers already in the country.”
Decathlon’s UK expansion manager, Ricardo Rodriguez, said: “This Decathlon facility is ideally and strategically located to service our existing store network and growing online demand. We wanted to remain in Brackmills and continue to contribute to the local economy by creating the best place to work in the Brackmills Industrial Estate.”
Brackmills is just 70 miles from London and roughly equidistant from Bristol and Manchester. The logistics hub is also located near Junction 15 of the M1, which provides fast connections to London, Nottingham, Sheffield and Leeds. Northampton is a prime logistics location with excellent transport links and a line-up of top 3PL and other distribution operations. Birmingham Airport is just a one hour drive while Felixstowe, the UK’s biggest container shipping port, is two hours 30 mins away.
Decathlon’s long-standing commitment to sustainable values meant that it wanted to work with a like-minded developer for its new UK warehouse. BARJANE’s approach to property development, combined with its existing relationship with Decathlon in France, made it the ideal development partner.
With a “very good” BREEAM certification level, energy efficient construction with an EPC rating of A11, rainwater harvesting for bathrooms and extensive, rich landscaping the new Brackmills Point warehouse has been designed to deliver excellent environmental performance.
This approach also ensures that the building provides a better place to work for employees. The warehouse has on-site MUGAs – multi-use games pitches – as well as easy access to the many local services available at Brackmills Point (which include a fitness centre, rugby club, restaurants and more).
