Achievements
• FirstHealth of the Carolinas in Pinehurst has announced its 2020 Nursing Leadership Academy graduates. Alexandra Morrison, Bralen Allen, Tarrah Taylor, Amy Logwood, LeighAnna Deberry, Mandie Scott, Sarah McAuley, Natalie Schrenker, Kelly Goforth and Dana Killilea all completed the yearlong program designed to prepare charge/staff nurses for leadership roles.

On the job
• Dr. Ryan Nance has joined the Women’s Comprehensive Health team at Pinehurst Surgical Clinic. Nance worked at McLeod OB/GYN in Spartanburg, South Carolina, after completing his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia, in 2019. He graduated with honors from the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, receiving his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
• Grace Payne and Sierra Simmerman have joined the staff of Carolina Horse Park in Raeford. Payne is the new senior operations analyst focusing on technology, compliance, and internal operating processes. She has more than 10 years of corporate accounting, human resources and management experience. She is an Army veteran who served a two-year deployment in Iraq. Payne earned a bachelor’s degree in accountancy at Methodist University. Simmerman is the new volunteer coordinator. She interned at the park while in college and has managed volunteers with the N.C. State Eventing Team and educational programming across a range of equestrian sports. She earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science at North Carolina State University.
• Jeni Ezell Harris is the new director of the Lee County Board of Elections. Harris replaces Parker Holland, who now works for the North Carolina Board of Elections. Harris formerly was an election technician with the Harnett County Elections Office. She graduated from Campbell University in December 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in information technology management and recently was certified as an elections administrator by the N.C. Board of Elections.
Grants
• Fayetteville State University faculty members Rodney McCrowre, a lecturer and director of the pre-business program, and Burcu Adivar, assistant dean of Broadwell College of Business and Economics, received $10,000 from PricewaterhouseCoopers that will be used to fund a redesign of the Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurial Thinking courses and the inaugural digital talent competition.
