City and Guild Certified Assessor and Verifier Training Program Launch…

The Commissioner Business, Technical Vocational Education and Training Dr. Safina K. Musene who represented the Chief Guest – The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education Mr. Alex Kakooza has officially launched the City and Guild Certified Assessor and Verifier Training Program for recognition of prior learning /skills certification project

The launch that took place on 9th March 2020 at Iganga Technical Institute will see a total of 60 people will be trained to become assessors and these will come from 10 institutions which are Nawanyago Technical Institute, Kiryandongo Technical Institute, Iganga Technical Institute, Jinja Vocational Training Institute , Basoga Nsadhu Memorial Technical Institute, Nkoko Memorial Technical Institute, Kaliro Technical Institute, Arua Technical Institute and St. Peter’s Technical Institute – Mubende, of the 60 assessors 15 will be trained to become verifier or quality Assurers

4 out of the 10 institutions will now be upgraded to become accreditation centers that is Nawanyago Technical Institute, Kiryandongo Technical Institute, Iganga Technical Institute and Kibatsi Technical Institute and a total of 250 artisans and skilled workers will be internationally certified

Dr. Safina K. Musene the Commissioner Business, Technical Vocational Education and Training In her remarks thanked Private Sector Foundation together with Skills Development Facility for bringing this accreditation closer to the ordinary people and tasked the 60 assessors or trainers who are going to be trained to make sure they return back to the various institutions so as they can assess their students to ensure they too get the International accreditation. She also acknowledged the need to set up a National Frame Work Policy by the Ministry to guide the Business, Technical Vocational Education and Training instutions to ensure they meet the desired standards

The Deputy head of Skills Development Facility Dr. Edith Kakuba in her remarks tasked the 60 assesors who are going to be trained to ensure they maximise this opportunity so that the institutions and students they are going to assess benefit and pledged more support to ensure this program benefits everyone and above all is sustainable

Mr. Tembisile Gweyi the representative from the assessment College / City and Guilds thanked Private Sector Foundation Uganda- (PSFU) and Skills Development Facility Uganda for the commitment, willingness and eagerness to fund this training

Mr. Turyatemba Baingana Eddy the Chairman the Association of Public Technical & Vocational Institutes of Uganda moved a vote of thanks to Private Sector Foundation Uganda- (PSFU) and Skills Development Facility Uganda for the funding towards the city and guilds certified assessor and verifier training
