KUALA LUMPUR: The Finance Ministry will take legal action against former 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) chief executive officer Arul Kanda Kandasamy to reclaim RM2.5mil paid to him in advance salaries.
Its Minister Lim Guan Eng questioned why Arul was paid that amount by the previous Government.
“We want to know how much he was really paid and whether he received up to RM10mil a year” he said, adding that they had no record of it.
It was reported that Arul enjoyed a RM5mil salary package for the period between Jan to June this year, signed by then Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Irwan Serigar Abdullah and approved by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The rest of RM2.5mil was expected to be paid after June 30th.
Lim who spoke at the Parliament lobby on Thursday (Aug 2) said that they were looking at what legal options were available for the decisions Arul made as 1MDB chief.
Lim said the Attorney General had been advised and was talking to lawyers over the possibility of making civil claims.
