Superintendent Dave Hoeger updated the Maquoketa Valley School Board on operational sharing agreements the district has with the North Linn School Board during the school board meeting Feb. 15.

The school districts share Hoeger’s superintendent position, as well as a transportation director and business official. Each shared position allows the districts to each claim a certain number of students on their certified enrollments, bringing in over $7,000 per student to the districts from the state of Iowa.

Districts may accumulate up to 21 students through sharing. Sharing a superintendent equals eight students, while the business position and transportation director are each worth five students.

Maquoketa Valley and North Linn have shared a human resource director with Springville Community Schools. Hoeger told the board Springville has recently hired a new human resource director and the district may share the new director.

Reached later in the week, Hoeger said the district will decide whether or not to share the human resource position. “I haven’t met the person yet,” he said. “When we meet them and see what their interest and skill set is, then we will make a determination if we want to mover forward with sharing that position or not.”

The board has scheduled a joint work session with the North Linn School Board Monday, March 1 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Delhi beginning at 6:30 p.m.

In other action, the board accepted resignations from Creig Dunlap as annual sponsor and Hannah Crumpton as middle school volleyball coach. The board approved hiring Trevor Arnold as head high school softball coach, Morgan Nefzger as assistant high school softball coach and Abby DeGroot as head high school volleyball coach.
