Aratek has announced the launch of an FBI PIV Mobile ID FAP30-certified optical fingerprint biometrics module featuring a larger sensing area and Live Finger Detection (LFD) technology for applications requiring high security and accuracy.
In addition to certification by the FBI, indicating high quality with a large capture area and high accuracy, the new A700-M provides a larger surface area for capturing more biometric data from each scan, according to the announcement. The 20.32 by 25.4 mm sensor area produces images of 400 by 500 pixels, and the scanner is compliant with ISO19794-2, ISO19794-4, ANSI 378, ANSI 381, and WSQ standards, with an image distortion rate below 1 percent for maximum fingerprint quality.
“Capturing more biometric data results in a vastly more accurate and secure authentication,” notes Samuel Wu, Aratek’s VP for International Business Department.
Wu also says that the high-quality capture provided by the A700-M reduces false negatives in which valid samples are wrongly rejected, and further enhancing its value for applications in payments, banking, healthcare, voter registration, network security, and other areas.
The device uses Aratek’s NIST MINEX III-compliant algorithm for high-performance extraction and matching, which provides 1:1 matching in 0.1 seconds, and 1:N matching in faster than 0.5 seconds. The company suggests this makes it suitable to serve as a basis for seamless, convenient and secure systems, and could for example minimize failed authentications in payments which can cause customer dissatisfaction and delays in processing.
The A700-M comes with integrated Live Finger Detection to prevent spoof attacks, and leverages 128-bit AES encryption for data security.
“With the help of Aratek’s patented algorithm, the A700-M is able to tell a fake finger from a real one by analyzing the pores, ridges, consistency, and other characteristics,” Wu states.
Aratek also launched a terminal with body temperature and mask detection weeks ago to support the safe re-opening of workplaces.
