CHANDIGARH: The syndicate meet scheduled for December 7 will take a call on starting of two new certificate courses at the department of women studies.
The department had proposed starting of a certificate course in governance and leadership in human resource management and another certificate course in governance and leadership in political parties and electoral process.
The academic council of the university had approved the two courses in its meeting held on June 26, 2018. The syndicate meeting held on October 14, 2018 considered the recommendations of the academic council and resolved that the items be brought again to the syndicate with comprehensive details to take an appropriate decision.
The registrar then sent the matter to the department of women studies seeking justification of introducing the two new courses along with the financial implications they will have on Panjab University.
Prof Pam Rajput wrote: “Human resource management and political parties and electoral process are significant components of governance and leadership courses. There is a lot of demand for certificate courses on this issue along the line of other certificate courses on governance and leadership. There are no financial implications of these two courses.”
She further said the courses were being offered (in anticipation of approval) but due to technical delay in getting the approval for admission to the said courses there has been no admission.
Prof Ameer Sultana from the department said the clause of the academic session was not applicable for the certificate courses because in one academic session two separate summer certificate courses and winter certificate courses were being offered by the department.
“Since it is a part-time course, the students will attend the classes along with the students of master in governance and leadership,” she said.
