PUTRAJAYA: The Borneo Post was named ‘Most Supportive Media in Sarawak’ at the CyberSecurity Malaysia Media Appreciation 2017 event.
The award acknowledges the efforts of journalists and news editors in educating, conveying information about and creating public awareness of cyber security.
As the most-widely read newspaper in Sarawak, The Borneo Post plays an important role in spreading information to the local community, with its website making information more accessible.
The trophy and certificate were presented by CyberSecurity Malaysia Board of Directors chairman General (Rtd) Tan Sri Mohd Azumi Mohamed during a ceremony at the Marriott Hotel & Spa here recently, where CyberSecurity Malaysia chief executive officer Dr Amirudin Abdul Wahab was also present.
At the same event, CyberSecurity Malaysia also held a pre-launch ceremony for its Global Accredited Cybersecurity Education (ACE) Scheme.
The scheme is a large-scale systematic plan of actions to certify and recognise cyber security workforce.
It is industry-driven and vendor-neutral, developed in collaboration with government agencies, industry partners and the academia.
The Global ACE Scheme is a holistic framework of cyber security professional certification that outlines the overall approach, independent assessments, impartiality of examinations, competencies of trainers, identification and classification of cyber security domains and the requirements of professional memberships.
According to Mohd Azumi, the speed of which ICT is developing today requires a more skilled workforce with a specialty in cyber security.
“Without their expertise, a country is vulnerable to cyber threats and attacks. However, a skilled workforce in this field is still lacking both on a global and national scale.”
Professionals registered under this scheme would be given membership and encouragement to hone their skills and knowledge according the Continuous Professional Development within the scheme, he added.
A total of 10 recipients, including celebrity Lisa Surihani, also received their Certified Information Security Awareness Manager (CISAM) professional certification the same event.
